At 27, juggling Real Madrid, the French national team, business ventures and public commitments, Kylian Mbappé had been living life in the fast lane… without a driver’s license. That situation is now resolved: the French superstar has officially obtained his long-awaited license in Madrid.
After the World Cup, came the driving test. Kylian Mbappé earned his driver’s license in Spain. A license issued in Spain is valid in France, as both countries are members of the European Union.
Mbappé Gains Independence with His Spanish Driver’s License
There is no obligation to exchange it for a French license unless it is lost, stolen, expired, or if a traffic offense results in a loss of points (France cannot deduct points from a foreign-issued license).
His mother, Fayza Lamari, had encouraged him to take the test so he could gain more independence and enjoy moments alone, without a driver or security detail. “I told him: ‘Get your license. At least be alone in your car.’ He said: ‘You’re not wrong, but studying for the theory test exhausts me.’ I insisted. ‘You’ll see, it will do you good to have thirty minutes to yourself, without a driver, without a security guard,’” she told L’Équipe.

According to the Spanish press, Mbappé recently completed his driving test in Madrid. A photo published this Monday shows him behind the wheel of a black car, confirming that he has officially obtained his license. It’s safe to say that Mrs. Mbappé must be delighted.
