Italian media were certain: Jürgen Klopp had reportedly given the green light to become the next head coach of AS Roma. According to La Stampa, an agreement was even said to have been finalized on May 18, just hours after Roma’s 3-1 victory over Milan.
The report claimed that Klopp, impressed by the ambition of Roma’s owners, the Friedkin Group, had accepted a major rebuilding project. The 57-year-old coach allegedly requested six new signings, including three starters, and wanted to integrate youth players into summer preparations.
End of the Red Bull chapter? Not so Fast
Since January, Klopp has been working in a strategic role with the Red Bull group. However, several sources suggested he was missing the touchline. Roma, a passionate club seeking a fresh start, would be a fitting destination.
But Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, quickly poured cold water on the speculation. Speaking to Winwin, he stated clearly: “The reports claiming Klopp will coach Roma are incorrect.” A strong denial that tempers the growing media buzz — though the idea of Klopp’s return to coaching remains appealing to many.
For now, Roma fans will have to keep dreaming. But the allure of a Klopp comeback is very much alive.
