LOSC have several major contract situations to resolve before the start of their summer preparations. No fewer than six players are set to be out of contract in 2026, and their futures remain uncertain. But the most pressing case concerns Olivier Giroud.
Olivier Giroud, Thomas Meunier, Aïssa Mandi, Chancel Mbemba, Nabil Bentaleb and Marc-Aurèle Caillard are all still waiting to learn what comes next. However, one name clearly stands out from the rest: Olivier Giroud. Lille are eager to keep him at the club.
Giroud Close to Signing a New Deal
Speaking on RMC, Lille president Olivier Létang confirmed that the former France captain wants to continue his adventure in northern France. “Olivier wants to stay with us,” he said. “Discussions are ongoing. We should have white smoke or black smoke within the next few days,” he added, referring to the Vatican’s tradition during a papal election.
With 11 goals this season, Giroud has fully convinced the club’s leadership. “He is still hungry, he still has the fire,” insisted Létang, strongly suggesting that a contract extension is well on track. “He wants to stay and we are convinced he can still bring a lot to the team,” he added.
The final decision could arrive within the coming days. Unless there is a dramatic change of course, France’s all-time leading scorer should remain in a LOSC shirt for at least one more season.
