Manchester United are preparing to pay a very high price for the Ruben Amorim gamble. The coach, sacked this Monday, was all smiles during his first public appearance. And for good reason: his contract includes an astronomical severance package.

Coaches come and go, they get fired… and United pay dearly every time. According to talkSPORT, dismissing Ruben Amorim will cost the English club a total of £27.35 million, or roughly €30 million.

A colossal sum that is already causing teeth to grind, especially since the coach’s sporting record does not really argue in his favor: only a 36.92% win rate over the period in question.

A massive investment, then, for a choice that is already dividing opinion and once again symbolizes Manchester United’s costly and risky policy on the bench. As for Ruben Amorim, there is no reason not to smile. In fact, his attitude reportedly shocked people internally when he left: he did not seem sad, but rather relieved and even happy. It is hard to blame him, since he has almost just hit the jackpot.
