Barça sporting director Deco has issued a clear message about the possible reunion of Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal: friendship won’t be the reason behind any transfer.

Speaking to La Vanguardia, Deco confirmed the club’s interest in the Athletic Bilbao winger: “He wants to come, like many others,” he said. “But we’ll only move if the conditions are right.”

While the pair’s close friendship has sparked excitement among fans and media alike, Deco was quick to dismiss any romanticism: “It’s great that he’s friends with Nico, but this is not a club of friends. You come here to work and to win.”

Deco also commented on Ansu Fati’s future, acknowledging talks with AS Monaco: “With his age and the career he’s had, he can’t be sitting on the bench. If he wants to leave, we won’t stand in his way.”

A loan is the likeliest option for the 21-year-old, who is no longer part of Hansi Flick’s immediate plans. Deco insisted: “He still has a lot to learn — people talk about him as if he were 30.”

The message is firm across the board: at Barça, sporting logic comes before sentiment.
