Real Madrid: Presidential Candidate Promises Haaland’s Signing, City Threatens to Sue

With just days remaining before Real Madrid’s presidential election, campaign promises are multiplying. Florentino Pérez and his rival Enrique Riquelme are competing with headline-grabbing announcements in an effort to win over the club’s members.

At Real Madrid, the increasingly ambitious promises have already sparked controversy between the two presidential candidates. After pledging the arrivals of José Mourinho and Ibrahima Konaté, Florentino Pérez saw his opponent raise the stakes even further. Appearing on Spanish television, Enrique Riquelme claimed that Erling Haaland would sign for Real Madrid if he wins Sunday’s election.

Haaland Transfer Claim Sparks Debate

“He is a fantastic player who plays in a position Real Madrid needs to strengthen. I have already spoken with his agent, we must respect his current club, but if I become president, he will play for Real Madrid,” Riquelme said. He even promised to reimburse club members if the Norwegian striker does not join.

The problem is that Haaland’s camp quickly denied the claim. The striker’s father stated that no agreement exists and described the announcement as simple “entertainment.” At the same time, another controversy erupted around Florentino Pérez. The outgoing president shared a video showing José Mourinho in Real Madrid colors, but according to several Portuguese media outlets, the coach reportedly told his employers that he had never recorded the sequence, which may have been generated using artificial intelligence.

City responded on Thursday by saying: “The stories which have emerged from Spain regarding the future of Erling Haaland are untrue. There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause to enable it. We are considering legal action for the use of our player image in this context.”

With only a few days left before the vote, Real Madrid supporters are struggling to distinguish genuine plans from campaign communication. One thing is certain: the race for the club’s presidency has already become highly controversial.
