Barcelona’s impressive return to the European stage—culminating in a Champions League semi-final this season—could soon be overshadowed by serious trouble. According to The Times, the Catalan club is once again under investigation by UEFA’s financial watchdog, potentially facing severe penalties.
Back in October 2024, Barça was fined €500,000 and issued a warning for falsifying financial accounts. Now, UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (ICFC) has reportedly launched a new disciplinary process linked to the 2023–2024 season, citing further breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations.
Reduced Squad, Points Deduction on the Table
This time, the consequences could be much more serious. UEFA is said to be considering limiting the size of Barça’s Champions League squad, or even deducting points in the group stage. It’s a potential blow to a club that seemed to be rebuilding effectively with young talents like Lamine Yamal and a promising core.
An official announcement from UEFA is expected in the coming weeks. But in Barcelona, the anxiety is already setting in.
