It’s now confirmed: Olivier Giroud has terminated his contract with Los Angeles FC. The 38-year-old striker, who scored 5 goals in 37 MLS appearances, will play one final match for LAFC on Monday against Vancouver before flying back to France.
Giroud is set to sign with Lille, with his arrival expected in the next few hours. Attracted by the project in northern France, the 2018 World Cup winner agreed to a pay cut from his previous €3 million gross salary in the US.
Tax Benefits on His Return
Despite the pay cut, Giroud will benefit from France’s special expat tax status, easing the financial impact of his Ligue 1 return.
This is a strong move by LOSC, landing one of the all-time top scorers for the French national team. Giroud will take on a new challenge in Ligue 1, over a decade after leaving Montpellier.
