Paul Pogba was close to saying “stop”

Paul Pogba, starting for the first time since May 2023, played nearly an hour and now feels ready to build momentum again, even to play a full match. But the end once seemed very near.

A difficult comeback fueled by resilience

“Did I ever think it was over for me? Honestly, there were moments when I said, ‘that’s it, I’m fed up,’ because I was doing everything, but it just wouldn’t stop. I kept wondering what more I needed to do to avoid all this…,” he admits.

Supported by his loved ones and fans, he eventually found the motivation to return to the highest level. “You don’t know how many times my wife told me, ‘go train’… but there are days when you have nothing, no calls, you don’t know where you’re going, so you wonder why you’re training. You ask yourself questions: ‘Will I come back? Will I play again? Will I find a club? Will I get back to my level?’ You really ask yourself a lot of questions.”

“Friends, family, and those close to me helped me, and there are also the fans when I see messages on social media, the applause in stadiums now. So I can’t stop here.” Under contract with AS Monaco until 2027, Pogba is also thinking about life after his career and is considering becoming a coach—but not before leaving the game on a high note as a player.
