Kylian Mbappé continues to make headlines in Spain. Sidelined with a thigh injury, the Real Madrid forward missed the match against Espanyol Barcelona (2-0), but his presence in Sardinia during his recovery has sparked criticism.
Mbappé on vacation while Real Madrid struggles has not gone down well in Spain. Facing the controversy, Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa clarified the situation during a press conference: “The management of injured players is entirely the responsibility of Real Madrid’s medical staff, who decide when they must go to Valdebebas and when they are not allowed to. Beyond that, each player does what they see fit in their free time, and I cannot interfere.”
Vinicius Steps Up in Mbappé’s Absence
At the same time, Mbappé’s absence allowed Vinicius Junior to shine. Scoring a brace, the Brazilian carried Los Blancos and earned praise from his coach: “He delivered another exceptional performance, scoring two superb goals, leading the team’s attack, posing a constant threat every time he touches the ball, very aggressive, very intelligent, very brave, and consistent.”
“He is a fantastic player, a natural leader.” Arbeloa added: “I managed him carefully because I didn’t want to risk him being unavailable for El Clasico, which is why I made that substitution late in the match. He also did an excellent job helping us defensively, something I always appreciate. He is a fantastic player, a born leader, a teammate everyone loves, and a wonderful person. I am truly very lucky to have him.”
Despite the victory, the atmosphere around Real Madrid remains tense, caught between controversy and a delicate end to the season.
