Real Madrid have pulled off a major move in the transfer market. As expected for several weeks, Ibrahima Konaté officially joined the Spanish giants on Thursday. The France international center-back arrives as a free agent after the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.
José Mourinho has secured another high-profile signing. After the arrivals of Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries, Real Madrid continue to add more French talent to their squad. Currently competing with France at the 2026 World Cup, Konaté already knows what his future holds. Once he returns from the United States, he will discover La Liga and join a star-studded squad featuring Kylian Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga.
Konaté Strengthens Madrid’s Defense
Real Madrid confirmed the French defender’s signing on a four-year deal. The 27-year-old is now tied to Los Blancos until June 2030 and will reinforce a defensive department that the club was eager to rejuvenate and strengthen.
For the Spanish side, the deal is particularly attractive from a financial perspective. No transfer fee was required as Konaté was out of contract at Liverpool. It is a superb piece of business for Real Madrid, who have secured one of France’s top defenders without spending a single euro on a transfer.
The remaining question is what role José Mourinho has in mind for him within the starting lineup. One thing is certain: with Konaté, Real Madrid add even more power, experience and quality to an already impressive squad.
