The story between Benjamin Pavard and Olympique de Marseille is already over. Just a few hours after the victory against Rennes (3-1) and qualification for the next Europa League, the French international officially confirmed his departure from the club through a long message posted on Instagram.
Benjamin Pavard is already leaving OM, a huge failure in Marseille! Signed during the 2025 summer transfer window from Inter Milan as the club’s marquee recruit, the 2018 World Cup winner was expected to become the long-awaited leader of Marseille’s defense. But after an extremely difficult season, the adventure is already coming to an end.
Pavard’s Difficult Season at Marseille
“A chapter closes today with OM. Wearing this shirt will remain a strong experience in my career and in my life,” Pavard wrote, before thanking the club, his teammates and the Marseille supporters. “I always tried to give everything on the pitch and represent this club with respect and commitment. I leave with a lot of emotions, lessons learned, and memories of a dressing room that stayed united until the end. Thank you to the club, the staff, my teammates and everyone who supported us this season. I wish OM all the best moving forward,” he added on his Instagram account.
Despite a few promising early performances, the former Bayern Munich defender quickly endured a very disappointing season. Repeated defensive mistakes and worrying displays in major matches against Lens, Monaco and Sporting meant Pavard never managed to reassure supporters or club officials.
Marseille’s management therefore decided not to activate the €15 million purchase option included in his deal. After 37 appearances in the OM shirt, Benjamin Pavard returns to Inter Milan with the image of a failed signing that leaves a bitter taste around the Vélodrome. The Pavard of 2018 was clearly not in Marseille…
