Marco Asensio still doesn’t understand what happened to him at Paris Saint-Germain. After a successful loan spell at Aston Villa and a summer move to Fenerbahçe, the Spaniard has finally opened up about the episode that defined his last months in Paris: his sudden disappearance from Luis Enrique’s plans, a situation that sparked rumours and confusion.
Once a trusted player for the coach, Asensio quickly slipped to the bench before becoming an outright unwanted option — a rapid fall he still can’t explain. “The season had started well, and then from one day to the next, I no longer counted for the coach. I wanted to play, enjoy football, so I looked for a solution,” he told Marca.
“On my side, zero resentment”
And despite speculation, there was no argument, no clash behind the scenes. “Honestly, as far as I know, nothing happened. I don’t want to take it personally. He’s someone who operates that way. On my side, zero resentment.”
A clear statement that ends the rumours — but not the mystery. Asensio has moved on, even if he admits he still doesn’t understand why Luis Enrique sidelined him so abruptly.
