Mauricio Pochettino has reflected on his time at PSG and defended his vision. The Argentine coach insists that the Mbappé–Neymar–Messi trio could have worked, provided there had been more time and a better-balanced structure.
Pochettino has some regrets. The MNM project could have succeeded. In an interview with L’Équipe, the former Paris manager emphasized a key factor: unity at the top of the club. “When the president, the owner, the sporting director and the coach are aligned, the right path is set,” he explained, praising the current coherence between Luis Enrique, Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
A star trio that needed time and structure
Pochettino rejects the idea that the stars themselves were the issue. “If we had continued, I think we would have had the opportunity to make certain decisions while keeping the stars,” he stated. For him, bringing together Mbappé, Neymar and Messi “was a good intention,” but it required time, especially to allow Messi to adapt.
According to him, the real problem lay in the team’s overall balance. “If you want to play with these three forwards, you have to think about the system that will support them,” he pointed out. His plan was clear: “to strengthen the defensive structure so that the three could fully focus on creativity.” An ambitious project that ultimately remained unfinished due to a lack of continuity.
