The black streak continues for Lille. After three consecutive defeats in all competitions, LOSC fell again this Thursday on the pitch of Celta Vigo (1-2) on matchday 7 of the Europa League. Another hard blow, marked by a goal conceded after just 35 seconds, which Olivier Giroud (39 years old, 7 matches and 2 goals in the competition this season) found very difficult to accept.
Olivier Giroud is fed up with losing. Clearly frustrated, the Lille striker did not hide his anger on Canal+. “What annoys me the most is that goal we concede right away, even though we had already been punished the same way against Lyon in the French Cup. We talked about it, but we make exactly the same mistakes again. The second goal also makes me angry: at 0-1, we were still in the game, and that goal knocks us out,” he said, adding that the team lacked sharpness in the final third and must react by sticking together and moving forward.
Giroud Reaches a Symbolic Milestone
Despite the defeat, Giroud still reached a symbolic landmark. By scoring late in the match, he netted the 354th goal of his professional career, thereby equaling Michel Platini’s total.
For the record, the LOSC striker remains the all-time top scorer in the history of the French national team with 57 goals in 137 caps, while Platini stands fifth in the rankings with 41 goals in 72 appearances in the blue jersey.
