A tragedy has struck the football world. Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car accident early Thursday morning in Zamora, Spain, according to Marca.
The 28-year-old was reportedly travelling with his brother André, a player for Portuguese side Penafiel, when the vehicle veered off the road and caught fire. Both men were killed in the crash.
From Paços de Ferreira to Anfield
Jota began his career at Paços de Ferreira before moving on to Atlético Madrid, FC Porto, Wolverhampton, and eventually Liverpool, where he became a key figure in the squad. He played a major role in the club’s Premier League title win in 2025.
A full international since 2019, he earned 49 caps and scored 14 goals for Portugal, contributing to their UEFA Nations League triumphs in 2019 and 2025.
The football world mourns the loss of a gifted player and a beloved teammate. A devastating loss for Liverpool and Portuguese football.
