The Portuguese Football Federation sparked a real storm on social media. By unveiling a new visual identity, the FPF caused confusion among many supporters, who believed the famous Seleção emblem was about to be replaced.
In the middle of the World Cup, Portugal’s new logo triggered massive controversy. The reaction was immediate. Criticism, concern, anger: Portuguese fans strongly denounced what they thought was an attack on one of the most sacred symbols of the national team.
The FPF reassures fans about the Seleção emblem
Faced with the scale of the backlash, the Federation quickly released an official statement to clarify the situation. And the message was crystal clear: the historic Seleção logo will not change.
The FPF explained that the newly unveiled logo only concerns its institutional and commercial visual identity. It is a graphic evolution aimed at harmonizing the image of the Federation’s different entities, without affecting the national team.

“At no point was a change to the Seleção emblem considered,” the Federation insisted. Before further reassuring supporters: “The symbol our players wear on their chest with pride represents an entire nation and is, and will remain, untouchable.” The FPF concluded by promising to honor this symbol in Portugal’s next match, enough to calm fans who remain deeply attached to the historic emblem worn by Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates during the 2026 World Cup.
