It is now settled for the French national team: Lucas Chevalier is heading toward a forced absence in March. France head coach Didier Deschamps will not call up the goalkeeper, who is no longer playing for PSG.
From future No. 1 for Les Bleus to potentially nothing at all, it happened fast. Lucas Chevalier could suffer a serious setback. According to Le Parisien, the 24-year-old keeper (1 cap) should not be included in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the friendlies against Brazil and Colombia, scheduled for March 26 and 29 in the United States.
France’s goalkeeper race reshuffled
Because Deschamps has issued a warning: those who don’t play, whatever their status, will not go to the World Cup. In the meantime, the France staff will test other goalkeepers.
Chevalier has been overtaken by two other keepers: Robin Risser (Lens) and Jean Butez (Como), both performing well with their respective clubs, are said to be the leading candidates to be preferred over him.
Now PSG’s No. 2 behind Matvey Safonov, the former Lille player has gone eight straight matches without playing a single minute. And the World Cup is drifting further and further away.
