The summer transfer window is heating up at Anfield, and Liverpool have landed two major signings: Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. The club has now confirmed their shirt numbers.
Florian Wirtz officially joined Liverpool earlier this summer for €136 million (£115.5m), including €117m (£99.4m) fixed fee plus €19m (£16.1m) in bonuses — a record fee for the Reds.
The 22-year-old German international will wear the legendary No. 7 shirt, once worn by the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Luis Suárez. He’s signed a contract until 2030 and will earn €12 million (£10.2m) per year, making him the club’s third-highest earner behind Salah and Van Dijk.
A creative force at Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz arrives on the back of a sensational season, having helped the club win both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. With 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 games, he’s expected to play as a central attacking midfielder or drift in from the left, depending on tactical choices.
Ekitike Gets No. 22
Hugo Ekitike also joins Liverpool, in a deal worth €90 million (£76.5m) from Eintracht Frankfurt. Initially wearing the No. 54 during pre-season, the 22-year-old French striker will switch to No. 22 once the squad numbers are finalized.
Ekitike now ranks among the Top 5 most expensive French signings of all time, and PSG — who had included a resale clause — will collect €15 million (£12.8m) from the deal. He is expected to make his Liverpool debut this weekend against AC Milan in Hong Kong.
