Bruno Genesio’s arrival at Olympique de Marseille appeared to be only a matter of time. However, with just a few weeks remaining before the start of the new season, no official agreement has been announced, raising questions around the club’s managerial situation.
Marseille are currently moving at a slow pace. While the 2026 World Cup gets underway, the club has made little progress in the transfer market, particularly regarding the head coach position. According to reports from RMC Sport and Foot Mercato, former Lille manager Bruno Genesio remains the leading candidate to replace Habib Beye after guiding Lille to Champions League qualification. A two-year contract, with an optional third season, is reportedly waiting for him in Marseille.
Uncertainty Surrounds Marseille’s Dugout
As negotiations continue, Habib Beye is carrying on with his duties as normal. According to Onze Mondial, the current Marseille coach is actively preparing for preseason with his staff and organizing the players’ return to the Commanderie training center at the beginning of July.
Even more surprisingly, no discussions regarding a possible contract termination have reportedly taken place between the parties involved. This ongoing uncertainty continues to fuel speculation about who will be in charge of the team next season. Meanwhile, Genesio is said to be planning to arrive with several trusted assistants, including Dimitri Farbos, Jérémie Bréchet, and Lille goalkeeping coach Nicolas Dehon.
With Marseille now aware of their 2026-27 fixture list, time is becoming a factor. The club will begin its league campaign on August 8 away to Strasbourg before hosting PSG at the Vélodrome on September 20 for the first Classique of the season. Until Bruno Genesio’s appointment is officially confirmed, Habib Beye continues to act as Marseille’s head coach, leaving many questions unanswered around the club.
