The 30-year-old is believed to have played throughout the tournament while experiencing pain.
Despite the problem, Rodri featured in all eight of Spain’s matches during the competition. It is another worrying physical setback for a player who has already been repeatedly disrupted by injuries over the past two seasons. The timing could hardly be worse, with Real Madrid reportedly preparing a major move to sign him this summer.
Back Surgery Could Complicate Real Madrid Move
Rodri is said to be open to returning to La Liga and would like to join Real Madrid, who are still searching for a true midfield organiser following Toni Kroos’ retirement. Although the squad contains several high-quality midfielders, none offers exactly the same profile as the German.
