Former German defender Sebastian Hertner died on Saturday at the age of 34 in Montenegro. While on vacation at the Savin Kuk ski resort in the north of the country, the former TSV 1860 Munich player was involved in a serious chairlift accident.
According to the first elements of the investigation, a technical failure is believed to have caused a collision between two gondolas. Thrown from the lift, Sebastian Hertner reportedly suffered a fatal fall of nearly 70 meters.
Career in German Football
His wife, who was stuck several meters above the ground, survived with a leg fracture and a head injury. Three other tourists were left suspended for several hours before being rescued.
Trained at VfB Stuttgart, Sebastian Hertner made his debut in 2009 with the reserve team before joining Schalke 04 in 2012. He signed with TSV 1860 Munich in 2013, where he played in Germany’s second division, before continuing his career with several clubs in the lower leagues. VfB Stuttgart paid tribute to its former player on social media, recalling his seven seasons at the club and his 65 appearances with the reserve team.
