Didier Deschamps continues to write his name into World Cup history. Thanks to France’s 3-0 victory over Iraq, the Les Bleus head coach has now reached a total of 16 wins in the competition.
Deschamps has also achieved a remarkable milestone of his own. While Kylian Mbappé is battling Lionel Messi to become the greatest goalscorer in World Cup history, the French manager is chasing an impressive record from the sidelines.
Deschamps Equals Historic World Cup Record
With this latest victory, Deschamps has matched the record held by Helmut Schön, the former West Germany manager, who also collected 16 World Cup wins between 1966 and 1978.
This statistic highlights the extraordinary consistency of the French national team under Deschamps. World champions in 2018, runners-up in 2022, and once again among the favorites in 2026, France have remained at the highest level of international football for more than a decade.
The French coach could even claim the record outright on Friday during the final group-stage match against Norway. A victory would make him the most successful manager in World Cup history in terms of wins.
